e-Granthalaya is a library automation software from National Informatics Centre, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. Using this software the libraries can automate in-house activities as well as user services. The software can be implemented either in stand-alone or in client-server mode where database and WebOPAC are installed on the server PC while the data entry program is installed on client PCs. The software provides LAN/WAN based data entry solutions for a cluster of libraries where a centralized/Common database can be created with Union Catalogue output. The software provides Web OAPC interface to publish the library catalogue over Internet/Intranet. The software runs on Windows platform, compatible with Z39.50, MARC, ISO 2709 and UNICODE Compliant, thus, supports data entry in local languages. Know more at http://egranthalaya.nic.in As part of its continuing support to open and free software initiatives in LIS and to equip the professionals with skills to handle various Library Management Software, KLA is organizing this National Workshop during 11-13 Sept. 2012 in Thiruvananthapuram. Objectives of the Workshop i. To give awareness to the participants on the need and importance of Library Automation and Networking in the Digital era. ii. To give an intensive and comprehensive hands-on training to the participants on one of the best and freely available Library Management Software in the country, E-Granthalaya, and to make them self-sufficient in its use. Areas to be covered Introduction to Library Automation and Networking Introduction to E-Granthalaya MS-SQL Server set-up E-Granthalaya Modules including WebOPAC Resource persons Shri Ram Kumar Matoria, Technical Director, Library and Information Services Division, NIC, New Delhi 2. Date and Venue The workshop would be conducted at the LBS Institute of Technology for Women, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram. The dates of the Workshop are 11-13 Sept. 2012 Registration Registration fee is Rs 1750/- per participant (Rs.1500/- for KLA Members). This entitles the participant for the workshop kit [including software CD-ROM], lunch and refreshments. Selection will be made on a first come first served basis.
