The Unbound Book Conference invites its speakers and audience to take part in defining this transformative landscape.

This is a two-day workshop. The second session will take place on Thursday, May 26th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This Two-Day intensive workshop is designed to teach beginners how to use XML in the library environment, with a focus on using the language for resource description, metadata management and electronic text encoding. The syntax, characteristics, terminologies, associated standards, and some important XML applications, will be taught through step-by-step examples, from basic level to intermediate level. Explanation and elaboration will come along whenever you encounter new concepts. Day 1 is a general introduction including basic syntax of XML, DTD (Document Type Definition) and CSS (Cascade Style Sheet language). Day 2 will focus on the W3C XML schema language and the Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL). We will use metadata schemes like Dubin Core and MODS as examples to demonstrate real XML application in the library world.
