Anyone who has been in a public library in the last decade knows that public access computers are helping community members access all types of digital content – from online job ads to the latest YouTube video meme. In addition to helping people access digital content, however, many libraries are also helping community members create digital content. When a library makes video and/or audio recording and editing equipment and software available, they are providing community members with an opportunity to gain new skills and to have a voice in the online world.

LibraryYOU is a project by the Escondido Public Library to collect and share local knowledge through videos and podcasts. With a recording studio in the library and training classes for the public, LibraryYOU has helped create a wealth of local knowledge in the community. LibraryYOU focuses on instructional and educational information, with how-tos, tutorials, and short lectures on a variety of topics.
