Social Events

Pre-Conference Get Together (18 September)

The American Library Association's resource sharing section, STARS, invites all ILDS participants to a pre-conference cocktail reception at Moe's Cantina River North. Join your STARS hosts and colleagues from around the world for Mexican food and margaritas on Sunday evening, 18 September. See final Program for details on exact time and location. This event is not included in your registration fee.

Conference dinner (19 September)

All participants are invited to join us Monday evening for the conference dinner at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). Located just one block east of the Magnificent Mile, the MCA offers outstanding examples of visual art from 1945 to the present with a strong focus on surrealism, minimalism, conceptual photography, and work by Chicago-based artists. After dinner, wander the galleries and enjoy the collections, or take in the view of Lake Michigan from the atrium. The conference dinner is included in your registration fee; additional guest tickets are available for purchase at a rate of $60 each. Catering is provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering.

Chicago Skyline Boat Tour (20 September)

One of the best ways to see the city is from the water, so we have scheduled an optional boat cruise along the Chicago River and Lake Michigan shoreline. The First Lady sets sail Tuesday evening, and of course cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served! Tickets are $50 per person and available for purchase when you register for the conference.
